“There is no small savings.” French Proverb

Photo TNT Pérols

Monday morning 25 long awaited finally arrived and Ronald participates repairs TNT to learn a bit more about the mechanics of our house on wheels. 15h to the truck is ready to hit the road, unfortunately more or less than the return, Ronald who applied to different offers in the PACA region.

After a short stop two days Poussan (déjà vu ? 🙂 ), we are going to Montpellier on Thursday 28. The night the temperature dropped below zero and we started heating. But we found on the Internet a trick for a small auxiliary heater cheap as we would like to test. This is not a revolution but for a small investment (zero even if you have the time to look or what to recover) this small heat source can save you money (unless you live in a loft hundred square meters, then I doubt the effectiveness !).

Auxiliary heating

Inside

It takes heaters dishes candles, they are sold in packs of fifty or a hundred for a small price (3,60€ Leclerc, should be able to find even cheaper in a bazaar), two flower pots clay with a size difference (one or two euros) and a cake (we took four aluminum € 3.40). After just put four candles in a square in the center of the mold, put on the smallest pot (upside down !), plug the hole with aluminum foil (empty packaging of a candle plate is nicely) and pose the biggest pot over. The heat of the candles will come out on the last hole pot and be released from the surface clay.

It does not replace the heater in a small room but maybe it will reduce the (calculation to see if it really saves on the invoice !), by against a boat or an RV, ça change ! Tested two nights, with temperatures between -1 and 2, we have not turned on the stove (economy oil !), Candles burn more than four hours so it holds the evening ! The device may be expanded (bigger pots) or multiplied (perhaps we will test two installations).
If not in house, remember to close all your shutters at night to reduce heat loss around 15% ; also know that lower its heating degree saves 7% energy, much less on the invoice. 😉

Frost on TNT

Fruit and Vegetable Rescue

Nous étions à la limite de la Camargue, just off Candillargues (a town near Montpellier) for the first test tonight, with bulls neighbors. La photographie de TNT juste au-dessus c’est le lendemain de la nuit bien froide, there was frost everywhere ! And right, une autre forme d’économie 😉 , Rescue fruits and vegetables thrown by a store “was”.

Friday 29, after full water on site (finding no fountain, we asked a worker in desperation, tip to remember, there is always water at a building site !), we visit a new neighbor city of Montpellier : Pérols. Direction Mas Rouge Park and its pond. Walk along the water where flamingos are installed ; left we saw on Carnon and opposite Palavas-les-Flots. We stay at Mas Rouge for the night on a small parking lot where nobody comes to bother us.

End of the day at the Mas Rouge

On Saturday, looking for laundry, we cross Carnon where we are greeted by a sign no parking the camper from 20h to 7h. We will not spend our pennies here, next town : Mauguio. If the laundry is next to a Intermarket (little information here Musketeers), I think this is the least expensive, faster and more effective than we could find since we live in a motorhome (almost three and a half years) : 3,50€ the wash cycle of a half-hour, 1,50€ drying twelve minutes (RVer friends take note !).

Return to Pérols, we remain in the commercial area will soon be deserted and where we will spend a quiet and sunny Sunday December 1st.

I liked the place.. must I return..

  2. Thank you for the tip heating ; to heat our 160 m2, we can forget, but the idea is excellent.
A well functioning and we tested Saturday : invite a lot of people at home. We were almost 30, we turned off the heating at 14h, expected guests eagerly as it was no longer so hot, then when they arrived, the temperature is rising steeply ! So much so that we have the half-open window almost all the time ! On the other hand, CO2 alarm (very sensitive…) was triggered (it does not scream, Fortunately, et se contente d’envoyer un SMS à mon mari…)… les bougies du gâteau d’anniversaire, certainement !
Pour la Suisse, si ce n’est pas pour tout de suite (Australie d’abord 😉 ), why not, I wondered how were received campers there, knowing that we're never going camping. In France, an RV can park a car where it can (except common recalcitrant ! :p ), but this is perhaps not the case in all countries. Maybe will you know me learn ?
  4. Thank you very much for the link, I will look. I support you in your choice, I myself have tried the adventure feet for a month.
If all goes well, we will leave for Australia by November or December 2014, after having conscientiously fulfilled our purses ! 🙂
  5. Hello Jean-Luc ! Glad to see you here. Actually we settled for several months (March to October 2014) Castellane where we both worked at a campsite. But it was to put money aside… To go back to Australia soon ! The settlement is still not for now ! 😉
